Chessington is a previously developed site within the Green Belt where infilling and redevelopment of land for Theme Park uses is considered appropriate. The ‘picnic field’ site is currently undeveloped, but it is surrounded by development at Chessington and has the benefit of being well screened by trees at its boundary, which were planted by Merlin as part of its historic landscape masterplan. In the past, the ‘picnic field’ site has provided various temporary attractions such as a beach, water play area, large inflatable obstacle courses and various other types of children’s play equipment, which have been popular with families visiting the Resort.
